To bring illumination to a dark room, you just flip a switch. While having a lit room makes it easier to maneuver through, lighting is about so much more than banishing darkness. If you want to have a modern room with modern furniture, you need to have modern lightning.
Lighting is basically broken down into two specific categories. The first and most recognizable is task lighting and the second category of lighting is known as accent lighting. Both are vital in the design of any room, and a modern design is no exception.
What is Task Lighting?: Every room needs task lighting. Task lighting allows people to see what they are doing. It is the most simple but - at the same time - the most important lighting feature in any room that hopes to use modern furniture. If there isn’t enough task lighting in a room, that room will be to dark to perform basic tasks in like reading or writing.
Accent lighting, while not the workhorse that task lighting is, accent lighting is great for giving your rooms decor the pop that it will always lack when it is not incorporated into a rooms design.
Task Lighting and its Uses: Most sources of task lighting are found in table or floor lamps; other forms can be found in the form of desk lights or even ceiling-fan lights. While these perform the basic service of task lighting, remember that they can be used as decorations as well. There are hundreds of stunning designs available; a little searching will find some that fit perfectly with your modern lighting designs.
How do I use Accent Lighting?: Accent lighting brings a higher level of decor to your home’s modern lighting and modern furniture. While accent lighting comes in many forms, one type of accent lighting that has been popular for many years is the wall sconce. There are so many different things you can do with accent lighting, the possibilities are virtually limitless.
What about Pendant Lighting?: Pendant lighting, more popularly known as hanging lighting, is another facet of modern lighting. Depending on your set up, these can either be accent lighting or task lighting. Nothing is better than pendant lighting at illuminating a dinning room table or a kitchen island or a breakfast bar, or any other modern furniture that you want to show off.
Great uses for Accent Lighting: A really good example of accent lighting is illuminated books or lit wall art. While adding these to a room doesn’t do much for illumination, they are the perfect way to bring decorating to the next level for that room.
