The American Council for an Energy have announced their top honors for greenest cars of the year 2011 and the long awaited results are finally in; Honda’s Civic GX, the first ever commercially produced gas car gets the very top spot. The Ford Fiesta SFE also receives recognition by being one of the thirteen cars on the list. Autos were judged based on mileage, emissions that are harmful to global warming and overall pollution emissions.
It may be a bit surprising but one of the cars that made the cut is not a hybrid but a traditional car; the Ford Fiesta with the Super Fuel Economic package (SFE). It aims for the 40 mpg mark and gains efficiency thanks to a revamped shield attached the underbody and a reshaped grille. Fuel economy is exemplary at 40 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the freeway. It’s fueled by a four cylinder 1.6 engine with 119 hp and 109 pound feet of torque. Safety features include ESC and an air bag system while classy touches such as ambient lighting provide for a classy and elegant feel. The base model 2011Ford Fiesta runs at around $13,320 and the SFE package costs an additional $695. Marietta Honda.
Second on the list is the Honda Civic GX; a vehicle that utilizes all natural gas and it’s the cleanest car available for sale when it comes to emissions. What powers the GX is a V4 cylinder 1.8 Liter with 113 hp and 109 lb feet of torque and reaches 0-60 in 12.6 seconds. The GX feels and drives just like a traditional Civic.
If you aren’t near a gas station which provides natural gas, you will need to install a fueling station in your house which costs around six thousand dollars. This would be impossible if you lived in an apartment or aren’t a homeowner. Mileage stands at around 24 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the freeway. The government offers a tax credit in the amount of four thousand dollars if you decide to purchase this auto, which can be applied towards the purchase price which is around $25k.
Consumers are paying closer attention to a vehicle level of “greenness” before buying and considering the state of the environment, that is a good thing. If you are looking for an eco-conscious vehicle, any of these cars would be a good deal. The Fiesta SFE might be more comfortable for some since it is a traditional car that just happens to be more efficient. The Civic GX is also a good choice because it’s the cleanest car on the market due to its unique powertrain.
