The biggest race in British horse racing is run every spring and its huge. Millions of people will gamble on its outcome. No other race captures the public imagination quite like it. A huge proportion of adults in the UK will place a bet on this event and for most of them it will be the only race they bet on during the course of the year. They often reach their decision based on little more than a hunch. It could be that they like the name of the horse or the colours that jockey wears. Office sweep stakes often hand people a real outside chance that has them realising they’ve lot before the starting gun has been fired. Everyone has grand national tips but not all of them can be trusted.

The Grand National, held at Liverpool’s famous Aintree course every April, is one of the most well known sporting events in all the British Isles. It has become an integral component of England’s culture, and is often thought of as an event that marks the end of winter. With four miles and thirty fences, it is a challenging race even for the most accomplished jockeys. The victor wins more than a handsome prize, they also go down in the annuls of sporting history.

Most people approach retirement with a gloomy face. They accept retirement as if it is a surrender to the hands of fate and the decay of the body. So, it is very important to help the retiree realize that retirement is something to be accepted because it is an inevitable development in life. But how can one do that? Its simple: just poke fun at retirement. Retirement jokes, like the ones made in speeches are popular. However, speeches tend to become emotional to the point where everyone in the room is in a state of gloom and sympathy. But one can raise the level of the mood with retirement jokes (without insulting the retiree, of course).

People regard retirement in different ways. Those who have saved or invested enough to be able to enjoy their retirement in style usually look forward to giving up the daily grind, whereas those who have not saved are normally not looking forward to it. However, there is another group of individuals who span both of these classes who do not want to retire either.

There was a huge increase in the birth rate after the Second World War. These babies were nicknamed the Baby Boomers and they are the babies born between around 1946 and 1960. This means that the first Baby Boomers became pensioners in 2011 at the age of 65.
