The relaxation of both your body and thoughts is critical if you wish to find out your authentic nature in nature. Stress in your body blocks the link in between your sense of self and your true self.

Within our modern culture there is a lot of tension caused by the nature of the program during which we reside. There is a lot of stress because of time pressures, financial constraints as well as romantic relationship problems. All this tension blocks the underlying all-natural rest that is a part of our true self.

Our true self doesn’t hold onto stress in both the physique or the thoughts. Instead there’s a profound sense of rest and resulting feeling of oneness with all objects.

When I first enter the wilderness during a nature immersion I usually do a brief rest meditation so as to let go of any residual stress that I might be holding onto. What I do is scan throughout my physique and just notice any tension within my muscle tissues. Then when I come across stress I just let it go, usually on an out-breath.

This letting go is simply like letting go of the rock in my hand. When I let go of a rock it drops to the ground. Likewise with stress in my body. I just let go of the tension within my body and allow it to drop towards the ground. Then mother earth can use this ‘tension’ elsewhere, where it’s required.

After I have scanned up and down my body and let go of all tension I usually notice that my physique has entered into a profound sense of relaxation. As soon as my physique is calm I then scan along my thoughts and just let go of any stress that is inside my mind and permit it to drop towards the earth. This is how I let go of tension when out in nature.

When I let go of stress like this I discover the calm state permits me to be much more aware towards the existing moment. I notice that my five senses of sight, listening to, scent, taste and sensation naturally turn out to be more acute when within this relaxed state of mind and body. It is like I live much more within the present moment.

While within this calm state I listen to many more birds, see many more animals, smell more of the earth’s smells, taste the different tastes along the wind and feel the various sensations all through my physique. This amplification of the 5 senses whilst relaxed also allows me to enter in to the spirit dimension a great deal more effortlessly to feel the delicate pull of spirit and the life power.
