Making Your Pro Football Picks

In one circumstance, you’re at risk of losing money. In others, you’re risking your pride. No one wants to lose money, and certainly no one wants to lose to their friends. With this in mind, there are some things that you should consider when making your picks each year.
If you’re a big fan of the sport, you’ll have a general idea of how each team did in the previous year. Considering this, your preparation for each subsequent season begins in the prior year. Since you probably have a good idea of how different teams did both on the whole, and against specific teams, then you’re already prepared for this part of the analysis. Obviously, teams that did well last year have a better chance of doing well this year.
Another thing that you’ll want to consider is the change in the roster of each team. As you well know, no team is the same from year to year. Most players may be retained, but in some circumstances, you’ll hear names a year later with which you’re completely unfamiliar. These changes definitely effect a squad’s chances.
Next, it’s good to assess the injury situation of each given group. For instance, if a key guy from a key position has been ruled out for a number of games, or even for the season, you’ll want to make an adjustment in judgement. While the first position that comes to mind is quarterback, beware of overlooking losses at other spots. Sometimes, the absence of a key right guard or even a clutch kicker can make the difference.
Now, another thing that you can do before the season starts is pay close attention to specific training camps, pre-season games, etc. These aren’t necessarily the most telling aspects, but it’s yet another way to gather information. Do what you can to find out all you can about a team’s chances.
Don’t forget your instincts! Statistics are all well and good, but at some point or another, it’s going to come down to the way you feel about certain franchises. This being said, don’t base your decision off of which team you like alone. Instead, get a good list of teams that you think have a substantial shot at winning, and then go with your gut.
As you’ve seen, there are tons of resources out there that will help you make your pro football picks from one season to the next, or one week to the next. By understanding each team’s strengths and weaknesses, you can assess match-ups thoroughly and get a good idea of how squads stack up against one another.
