Even though these officials have almost always gotten their way when it comes to intruding on the privacy of citizens, they are now facing an issue they have never faced before. Today, due to the astonishing technical advances that have been developed in the communications industry, even the network providers themselves cannot access some of the information that is transmitted over their networks.
Some government officials are declaring that these limitations are unacceptable though, because they believe the enemy uses these networks to transmit vital information about their plots. For this reason, some government officials believe the companies that own these networks should have to develop back doors in order to give complete access to government organizations.
In order to gain access to these private and encrypted communications, U. S. Organizations sometimes require companies to develop systems that will decipher the information being transmitted. The process of developing these back doors can be time consuming and costly.
If these networks continue to comply with these requests for back doors, and they also start building back doors into all of the networks they build, it is likely that no one will be able to communicate privately over the Internet in the future. Not only that, but many critics of these Internet wiretapping policies have also pointed out the fact that the security features communication networks provide to their customers will essentially become pointless if they just give the information to any government organization that asks for it.
Now that this information about the security of these networks has come to light, some communications customers are concerned about the security of these networks. If the government continues to have its way, it is likely that no customers will feel safe while transmitting important information through these channels. If this ever occurs, it is likely that the Internet could face some sort of meltdown as consumers start using other forms of communication.
Since consumers can no longer trust the promises their communication providers make about security, and communication companies are likely going to be facing exponentially rising costs when it comes to securing their networks and giving intercept capabilities to governments, it is likely that Internet wiretapping will be the death of Internet privacy.
