In this difficult economic climate, many people can not afford the high prices of memberships to a fitness club or gym. Most good gym club memberships can be rather expensive. Many people resort to purchasing home exercise gyms, but if you don’t have the funds for that either, it’s okay. There are many free ways to get workout help as well as ways of cutting costs to make you healthier. You shouldn’t have to pay to exercise to lose weight, especially since there are many ways to get in shape on your own terms in your home.

A must have home gym purchase is dumbbells. With some dumbbells, you can perform many different workouts that will work nearly every inch of your body. But if you can’t afford them, you can find your own replacement. Once you are finished using your detergent bottles for laundering purposes, recycle them as your new free weights in your home gym.

By removing and adding liquid from your detergent bottles, you have a broad range of weights to exercise with. The handles that are constructed into detergent bottles doubles as a great grip for your exercises. Having free alternatives to dumbbells will introduce you to a vast array of exercise choices. Another way to use these bottles is to attach them to the ends of a broomstick to use them as weight plates on a barbell rack.

If you already use cable television, use it fully by recording some helpful workouts from FitTV or other networks dedicated to health and fitness. My cable provider also features workouts available free on demand that I use. By having so many options with different styles, my workouts never gets repetitive. If this is something that you already pay for, it would be foolish to not take advantage of this great resource.

Using the internet doesn’t have to be a lethargic activity. Head on over to youtube and take a look at the thousands of exercise and weight loss videos on the site. They are made for all skill levels and enables someone to come along and try an activity out for the first time or to learn something new about an activity they already perform. I tried yoga for the first time by learning from someone on youtube and now I do it at least four times a week. You do have to be careful for those that don’t know what they are talking about. A bit of quick research is important to see if they are correct.

I know what you are saying… this is all well and good, but how am I going to get big results this way? I hear you. My advice is to try this out for a few months and during that time, cut things out of your diet like soda, snacks, candy etc. Take the money that you would have normally spent on all those bad things for you and put it aside in your home exercise gym fund. If you have a bike or are less than a mile from an intended destination, try biking, walking or jogging instead. You save money on gas and burn extra calories, which is always good!

All of these little additions to your daily routine can really add up over a couple months. If you don’t see results right away, don’t get frustrated. Keep it up. When you’ve saved up enough, invest in some inexpensive and versatile home fitness gym equipment like an adjustable dumbbells set, resistance bands or an exercise ball. Adding new pieces of equipment sporadically will keep you engaged as well as keeping your body from getting too complacent with the same old exercises.

There are a lot of things in life that require money, but exercise is not one of them. Use one or all of the tips previously mentioned to save money while getting fit and healthy.
