But when Sony came into play, the competition became tough because of the very 1st PlayStation.

This was the time when online gaming started becoming popular. Blizzard offered to players Battle Net, its online gaming community allowing players to meet opponents online.
As technology developed at the speed of light, consoles also gained the capacity to connect to the internet. These consoles were modem ready. During the same time, online games like Ragnarok started becoming popular. During that time, the graphics weren’t all too good because of limitations with the current internet technology. What made up for mediocre graphics was the opportunity to meet and chat with other players online.
Currently, hard core online games are called MMORPG or Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. Hard core graphics, state of the art programming, and fast connectivity have made people hooked on modern online games. It lets people create their fantasy character or avatars online. We get to live in adventures that only existed in fairy tales.
Modern consoles are Xbox live and the PSN or PlayStation Network. With these new console games, MMORPG are also offered. Nowadays, online games are also available in 2d form for smartphones and tabs and samples of them are dress up games and fight games. Dressup games and many other Apps do not have hard core graphics but have the allure of cartoony graphics and ease of playing.
