Once in a while, solid, crystalline deposits, known as kidney stones or renal calculi, form in the urinary tract or the kidneys. This is caused by the reduced amount of urine or excess calcium, uric acid and amino acid cysteine in the urinary tract. It might also be caused by gout, hypercalciuria, hyperparathyroidism, renal tubular acidosis, cystinuria, hyperoxaluria, diabetes, hypertension, and inflammatory bowel disease.
