Costa Rica is not precisely famous for its archaeological history. However Guayabo National Monument is Costa Rica’s most important archaeological site. This region in Turrialba was inhabited by 10,000 people, who according to archaeologists simply disappeared before the Spanish arrived in the 16th century. Guayabo is an ancient of the Pre-Columbian era, located in the midst of the cloud forests and rain forests of Costa Rica. It is located in the Cartago province, 60 miles east of San Jos.
