Communication: arguably the most important aspect of the human existence. It is what sets us apart from any other animals on the planet. Although one can argue that dogs, cats, monkeys, and other intelligent creatures have the capabilities to communicate with one another, certainly not to the extent that human beings do. Our forms of communication and relaying messages are so diverse too: we can convey a mood with a look, give an attitude with the eyes, vocalize an attitude with a certain timbre, or simply have some choice words to speak our message. This only applies to personal, one on one communication though. As far as reaching a wide audience or from a great distance, we have audio and visual. These two are the rudimentary basis of all human interaction, and adapt wonderfully to their mediums. The wonders of technology have enabled us to take advantage of both of these styles.

The servicemen and servicewomen of the US Military are overseas right now fighting for your freedom. They made this commitment on their own yes, but it is a choice they made because they love the idea of freedom, and because they want to better themselves and their country. Remember it is not a choice that is made lightly by any means. It is something that they considered, and probably for several months. In the end they decided that fighting for freedom and making a stand was worth more than anything-even their own lives. That being the case they signed the papers, they boarded a plane, and now they sit thousands of miles away from home. Fortunately there have been some innovations that have provided soldiers with more entertainment than they would have had access to in the past. These innovations are centered around the Internet.

Would you rather disregard privacy and share pictures with no restrictions not just with friends but even with strangers? Bill Nguyen’s recently developed photo-sharing network that is appropriately named Color can do just that. Though quite new, this application promises to seize a fairly good share of the market. To recall, Nguyen sold his music-streaming company Lala to Apple in 2009 for around $80 million. This new application that he fashioned could be one more sure hit.

At times, people put their privacy in danger just because they do not know how to protect it. The use of GPS technology has significantly made it easier for people to find places and locations more easily. When driving through an unfamiliar place, finding a restaurant or an ATM in town, GPS is necessary. Lately, many concerns have been raised concerning privacy issues in the use of tracking technology. Many phones and cameras are now fitted with GPS, and users enjoy its features from simple photo taking to uploading on the internet.

In Washington, Federal treasury officials found an unusual association between missing children matters and tax returns. They examined more than 1,700 of these investigations and what they found is that more than 1/3 of them had been declared on tax returns by relatives that are suspects for their seizure. Many domestic cases of child abduction are still left unanswered and the children never found.

The EFF, or Electronic Frontier Foundation, is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1990. It is based in San Francisco, California and is known as consumers’ first line of defense of their digital rights. Even before its formal founding, its actions have targeted on digital rights advocacy, and on shielding consumers against repression of their personal freedom and rights. Individual donations are its main source of funds, and litigation makes up the bulk of its expenses. It is recognized for being a “winner” in digital rights matters.
