You can’t go anywhere without a large, colorful movie poster staring you in the face. Then there are the endless commercials on television and the seemingly endless preview of coming attractions in the movie theaters themselves.

Wanna know a secret? I love action movies. I love watching things blow up on the screen. I love watching people on horseback chasing down spacecraft. I love watching people get sucked into video games. But when given the choice between curling up with the latest Hollywood hottie and settling in with a classic film, I’m just as likely to opt for the classics.

As a classic film lover, I’ve noticed a very disturbing trend. The minute you start talking about vintage films, whoever you’re talking to immediately starts drooling, babbling incomprehensibly and, eventually, zones out with a glassy eyed gaze that will have you reaching for the phone to dial 911.

Enter any Blockbuster in any town in the country and you will for sure encounter all the latest Hollywood hits, or horrors, depending on how you look at it. What is far scarcer and perhaps nonexistent on the shelves are the classic films, hits like Ma and Pa Kettle or Laurel and Hardy that you could sometimes catch on late night television when your parents thought you were asleep.
