Cheshire and its administrative centre, the city of Chester, are steeped in history. Chester was once an important Roman stronghold and Cheshire held one of the largest ports in England’s northwest during the Medieval ages. To this day evidence of its glorious past can still be seen, from black and white Tudor houses, to cathedrals and castles of Norman, Gothic and Victorian architecture.
