Visiting Cape Town, South Africa’s beautiful harbor city is really one for the bucket list. Cape Town’s breathtaking natural panoramas, rich multicultural heritage, well-developed infrastructure, mild Mediterranean weather make it one of the most enthralling cities. My wife and I, along with our two kids, had a week-long stay at Cape Town almost a year ago, March to be specific. Although Cape Town is amazing regardless of season, we chose March because it is the start of the off-season month and thus we don’t have to compete with a throng of travelers for accommodations and other tourism services. At the same time, March is typically neither too cold nor too hot, and thus will allow us to enjoy our planned outdoor activities more.

One aspect of Cape Town that I really love is that even though it has the amenities typical of a modern city, it embraces its rich cultural history too. Two of the best places to see the city’s architectural heritage are the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and the Bo-Kaap neighborhood.

Cape Town’s multiculturalism is very evident in their cuisines. Gastronomes would surely delight in both international and local dishes that Cape Town’s restaurants serve. Cape Dutch and Malay dishes feature seafood caught locally. Another must try dish is the bobotjie, which consists of spiced minced meat with an egg-based topping. It also has some of the best tasting wines since the city is also in the middle of a major wine-growing region.

When coming up with an itinerary for your family vacation, you have to take into account not only your preferences but also that of your companions. The good thing is that the city really has a lot to offer for all ages. When asked which vacation destination they loved the most, my children would definitely say Cape Town. They really had a grand time at the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A waterfront, and the safari tours.

Accommodations are not a problem in the city as there are a plenitude of hotels and bed & breakfast in Cape Town. We stayed in a bed & breakfast in Cape Town because we didn’t want to spend as much. We chose a Cape Town bed & breakfast accommodation in outside the city center but still close to it, because we wanted more quietude and also to take advantage of lower prices. For a hassle-free stay, you can reserve Cape Town bed & breakfast and hotels ahead on the city’s official visitors’ website.

If you don’t want to spend as much in your trip to South Africa’s beautiful harbor city, stay in a Cape Town bed & breakfast.
